I like Nelson, and he's a smart guy, and a person who won't just tell you what you want to hear, and I respect that. I back the alcohol tax increase for the reasons he does 100%. If tobacco's tax should be increased because of health reasons and the risks it poses to the larger society, then how in the world could alcohol be exempted from the same logic? The college tuition rates, though, are a bit trickier. I agree with his end desires. But universities have fixed costs and we are about to enter, I believe, an inflationary period. So every cost from utilities to food to paper is going to go up. Unless there is something in this bill whereby the State would fill the gap to handle those issues, the colleges will be left holding bags.
