At first glance I agree it strikes me as dumb. On the other hand, since even write-ins have to pre-file, or something of the sort any more (as I understand it,one can't just initiate a write in campaign literally at the day-of), what is the sense? I'm actually asking the question because I'm not certain what the election laws are now. But if the outcome is actually pre-ordained, why go through the motions at a dollar cost?

This can't be right? Will Perry and Harlan have to pay for a election with only one candidate? Can someone clarify the laws or rules. If it is true its stupid.
