We have thought long and hard about who and when we will endorse for statewide office. Amazingly our readership, even without regularly updated content, is strong. We receive a lot of feedback on a weekly basis with regard to the candidates.
A few years back we had a number of potential programs that with a little support would have transformed Eastern Kentucky but Nelson told me something 4 years ago that is ringing very ironic on this day. He would not support any of these proposals because "He didn't want to piss off anyone" within a certain unnamed state department because "He wanted to run for statewide office one day." From that point on I had little to do with Rep. Nelson other than my half dozen investigations into a number of allegations of potential wrongdoing, all of which were ultimately proven false. This brings me to the number one reason for this endorsement; Nelson is honest. The number two reason was the work he done for the Indian people of Southeastern KY in the past, I will never forget that.
We feel that Nelson would make a noncontroversial and solid State Treasurer giving his history of honesty and integrity. I don't have to like what he told me 4 years ago (and I didn't) but at least he told me instead of playing a politicians game.
Have no worries we will continue to look over Rep. Nelson's shoulder, like we have been for the last 2 or 3 years. So we ask the people of Southeastern Kentucky to vote for Rep. Nelson next Tuesday and we feel with this endorsement may tip the scales for Nelson among undecideds in the region.
At this time we will NOT be endorsing any other candidate for statewide office, so while we appreciate the emails and feedback, please, no more emails asking us when we will endorse.
