Longtime Washington veteran U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (R,KY-5) was making his rounds for state Rep. Brandon Smith (R) in his bid to replace Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo (D) in state Senate District 30. Not sure if Rogers was on the ground or working the phones, but Bell County seemed to the Rogers' focal point.
Yet another Democratic official is rumored to be supporting Smith, a member of the Bell County Democratic Party Executive Committee, Dennis Short, is rumored to have been out campaigning for Smith. The Short family is quite large and if my source is talking about two different Dennis Shorts, I apologize in advance. Short ran an unsuccessful campaign against current Bell County state Rep. Rick Nelson (D) in the 2006 Democratic primary. If the rumor is indeed true, I call on the Bell County Democratic Party Executive Committee to remove Short immediately, without delay.
With Rogers out campaigning for Smith, does state Senate President David Williams (R) publicly renounce Rogers' actions? And of course the press will overlook this and I doubt it will be mentioned, they love those stomping on Beshear scoops.
Also, the Kentucky Democratic Party appears to be in full mobilization mode as resource allocation has commenced. Like I said yesterday, everything could be peachy. So far this is how I see it; Perry is probably split within a tradition margin of error, Harlan is in the same shape, Leslie is rumored to not like Smith at all and those votes will go Alexander and Bell county, as predicted yesterday, seems to be the key and who knows what will happen there. Especially if we have Democratic officials out campaigning for Republican candidates. I hope I am dead wrong and will offer a public rebuttal if proved to have been wrong and I will enjoy it.
