I love new rules, don't we all love the new rules. One way or the other Obama, or the EPA (same thing) will eliminate surface mining in Kentucky. Going after mountaintop removal is understandable, especially when there is no post mining economic development plan, but just as all of us coal lovers have feared big brother gov is extending its reach and appears to be going after surface mining in general. What bugs me is it makes the far right nut-jobs look, well, right after all.
I love that its centered here in Appalachia. What about pit mining in Wyoming? Its surface mining isn't it? Yea I know its a few days late but... from the Mongiardo campaign
""Today's decision by the EPA declares war on Kentucky coal, which provides a critical energy need for our country. Not only is this an attack on the coal industry, but today's EPA ruling will cost thousands of jobs and in effect shut down communities throughout Kentucky. I call on the entire Kentucky delegation to challenge this wrong-headed decision," said Mongiardo.
"This ruling selectively targets the coal industry. If this ruling were applied to other industries like farming, road construction, commercial development and housing, it would shut down our economy. This anti-coal decision by the EPA Administrator does not reflect what is necessary to protect the health of Kentuckians, but her own deep seated bias against the coal industry. We should not let this decision stand without a fight," said Mongiardo.
