Kentucky's horse racing industry will be in danger of becoming irrelevant if the Kentucky General Assembly fails to approve slots at tracks. I am not a big fan of expanded gaming but practicality instead of politics must come first in this special session.
Indiana is reeling in the crowds with the promise of larger purses. The increase in the take is the direct result of slots at the tracks. Every business evolves over time and the horse racing industry is no exception. Hopefully the Republican controlled senate can set aside their pseudo conservative attitudes and approve this measure.
Wouldn't it be a damn shame if the Kentucky horse racing industry becomes a third or fourth tier industry, behind states like Indiana. At least we have the Kentucky Derby.
So hopefully all the petty politics will take a back seat in this special session.
