My in-laws emigrated from Italy in the 1950's, they are wonderful people who are living the American dream. As common everyday folks, they believe America gave them a chance to succeed. But when you look at Daniel Mongiardo and John Calipari, they have experienced the ultimate American dream.
John Calipari's grandfather emigrated from Italy and went to work in the coal mines and died of Blacklung. Daniel Mongiardo's grandfather emigrated from Italy and went to work in the coal mines. John Calipari,as everyone knows, is sitting on top of the college basketball mountain. Daniel Mongiardo, as everyone knows, is sitting on top of Kentucky's political mountain and is looking to build a palace on top of that mountain when he wins the 2010 US Senate race.
It is absolutely amazing that in our little Commonwealth, we have two men who have realized that American dream to the extreme heights of success.
Neither Calipari nor Mongiardo had it handed to them on a silver platter. Calipari's dad worked as a baggage handler and Mongiardo's father owned a small package store. Both had dreams and had the guts to go after those dreams and both are living their dreams.
It doesn't matter what your political beliefs are, these two men should be heralded as an inspiration of what is possible, if you work for it.
