FRANKFORT---In a new independent poll conducted by Daily Kos/Research 2000 released today, Lt. Governor and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Daniel Mongiardo has a strong seven point lead (37-30) over Attorney General Jack Conway in the Kentucky Democratic Primary and is in a statistical tie with Republican Secretary of State Trey Grayson.
This is the second independent poll in the last month to show Mongiardo with a strong lead over Conway and being the stronger Democratic candidate against either Grayson or Paul.
Since a Survey USA poll on August 18, Mongiardo has cut Grayson's previous lead (46-40) and is now in a statistical tie (Mongiardo 41-Grayson 45) based on a 4-point margin of error.
The Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of 600 likely voters taken between Aug. 31-Sept, 2 (MoE +/-4%) shows Mongiardo with a strong 12 pt lead among women (39-27) and leads among men 35-34 in the Democratic primary. In the General Election match up against Grayson, Mongiardo performs better than Conway among Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
"With Daniel Mongiardo now in a statistical tie with Trey Grayson and holding a solid lead over Jack Conway, this poll shows Daniel Mongiardo is the strongest Democratic candidate to take back Wendell Ford's Senate seat. Other candidates may have more money, but Daniel Mongiardo is the only candidate in this race with a record of standing up for hard working Kentucky families and the ability to unite every region of Kentucky in a common effort to improve our Commonwealth," said Kim Geveden, Mongiardo spokesman.
