I have spent the last few days talking with friends, family and business associates in regards to my place in the political arena in Kentucky. I am leaning toward totally removing.......
myself, voluntarily, from the political scene.
With my new business ventures, I have more than one cooking, my political activism will be counter productive. The businesses I am trying to develop can in no way be associated with politics. So I cannot have it both ways. I have delayed the inevitable long enough. I will not continue to delay my business plans for this blog.
My main focus will be the Ridgetop Shawnee Tribe of Indians. I serve as Executive Tribal Manager and when we actively begin to fund-raise I cannot be associated with hands on political activism or campaigns. I have created one hell of an opportunity with my music ventures, Black Station Productions and Inchained. I have a sneaking suspicion that Inchained will do something big.
Since my early retirement announcement one year ago I have continued to struggle with the thought of hanging it up. The reason for last year’s announcement was health related and that has passed but I believe this situation has come full circle. I will begin to send out some feelers in regards to the selling The Rural Democrat.
I know this sounds hypocritical but I have always had a certain disdain for politics, especially Kentucky
politics. It seems it is getting worse not better. I appreciate the 1.5 million folks who have read this little unfunded blog. But it is time to hang it up for good.
This decision is business related, time related, sort of health related, and to speak the truth I have had it with Kentucky politics in general. This very well could be my last post.
Meet the mascots and security for Black Station Productions!!
We all seen this coming. I hope the blog continues. Good luck.

I have enjoyed the rural democrat and your writing. You have been honest and forthcoming. Good luck with your life after politics. You should sell the blog to Kenn Stepp. I think he may be the one who can continue what you have started. You just need to teach him to stop copy and pasting entire articles! Eventually the copyright nazis will come calling!

Stepp would be a perfect fit. He is a talented writer and if he runs against Rogers again the rural dem would give him a huge boost and advantage.

you will be missed!

Well shit the last hold out is gone. I guess us dems might as well go ahead and join the GOP. The Kentucky internet will suck liberal piss drops after you go offline. Conservative dems are a dying breed if you ask me.
I bet Daniel Mongiardo is shitting his pant right about now. He will have no game on the Kentucky internet after you end your run. Poor poor Danny boy. I know this sounds really stupid but your absence could make a huge difference for old Dr. Dan.

I hear Dr Dan is in trouble for something, that is the rumor. You would not be quiting because of that would you? Please tell!

I hear he is trouble for something Shack wouldn't be quiting because of that would he? Please tell. My other comment vanished into this air I bet this one does too.

Good riddance

No real surprise I guess. Good luck with the music.

How about unblocking me before you pull the plug.
It saddens me to lose a disagreeing, but not disagreeable, voice. Liberals in Kentucky will miss your perspective.
You've done an excellent job of articulating the conservative position on social issues and demonstrating as well that the Democratic party can deliver a 2 party system anticipated by the constitution.

Mongiardo is screwed! Thank you Shack for hanging it up thank you thank you thank you. Now that you're finally gone Mongiardo will have no internet game and Conway will have it all to himself. Good luck with your band, I hate your politics but your band is great.

One thing people never understood about Shack is his ability not to give a damn. I agree with him that Kentucky politics is the dumpster of political realms. Shack is serious this time and we have lost one of the only HONEST voices in Kentucky politics. Everyone in this system should be held accountable and be passionate about his or her political beliefs.
We have to examine Shack’s body of work in Kentucky politics; it is truly amazing what he pulled off with Hendrickson. It frightened everyone in Frankfort. Shack’s only problem is his reclusive nature. He is the dark man in the dark room. He did not cultivate this persona it is truly who he is. So his excursion into heavy metal music is not for show it is truly who he is, pit bulls and all.

We have lost a giant today.

I'll miss Shack, also. We discussed me buying the blog, but I am not in a position to do that. I plan to keep my day job, and you readers all have my best wishes. I think the blog spot has been a boost for Dr. Dan, just when he needed one most. I can be located through Google and will continue to post on other web sites, and on this one if and when it reopens. Yes, Kentucky politics is out of sinc with national politics, but it is up to us to make Kentucky politics better. Kenneth Stepp.
