The cat is out of the bag; 84th House District candidate Benny Ray Bailey JR has a record but not the type of record he would brag about.

Someone in Perry County is distributing flyers with Benny Ray Bailey JR's court records on it. The flyer claims to be the work of another 84th District candidate Chester Jones (D) and he is mad as hell and is threatening to sue the creator of the flyer. It must be nice to have had a daddy like Former State Senator big Benny Ray Bailey. This guy sure loves to drive fast!

This is verbatim from the Lexington Herald Leader regarding the content of the infamous flyer that has been circulating around Perry County:

In 2001, court records show that Bailey was charged with fourth-degree aggravated assault, spouse abuse and violating a Kentucky emergency protective order/domestic violence order.

The charges were later dismissed.

(Bailey Junior's response~)

"I was married before and not unlike 50 percent of all marriages in the country, it ended in divorce," Bailey said. "Am I a perfect person? No. These things happen in a divorce. It was dismissed."

Am I reading this correctly???? Did he really say that THESE THINGS HAPPEN IN A DIVORCE???? So basically Bailey Junior is telling us that aggravated assault and spouse abuse are commonplace in divorcing couples. I beg to disagree!!!! And then if that wasn't heinous enough he has the audacity to go on to say that "It was dismissed" as if that just erases what happened. I am appalled that he was so flip about such serious charges. I don't care if his ex-wife is supporting him or not. Facts are facts. Spouse abuse is spouse abuse. I know that I for one DO NOT want a man who beats his wife representing me.

Benny Ray Bailey Junior's official record clearly spells out that HE ABUSED HIS WIFE.

This man is not who he pretends to be.

He can hide behind all his fancy talk and his fancy law degree (which, ironically enough, he can't do squat with since he's not allowed to take the Bar exam due to his criminal record) and his Big Daddy Bailey but neither he nor his Daddy can hide his record. Oh but they sure did try though- they got his record expunged but somehow (by the grace of God) it managed to see the light of day and show the public what kind of person Junior really is behind closed doors.

We cannot morally, ethically and with clean conscience send a man like Benny Ray Junior to Frankfort to represent the good people of Eastern Kentucky.

I'm almost positive Benny Ray's daughter is from his first wife. I don't think he would have full custody of her if these charges held any water.

What good is a law degree if you can't pass the Bar Exam (i.e. the test that enables you to legally practice law)? That's like a doctor with a medical degree that can't pass his or her residency and thus can't practice medicine. Ben Junior's law degree is just a piece of paper. Useless.

His record dosent look bad to me at all, the domestic violence charges are alarming but if u had read the lexington herald leader's article about this subject earlier this week you would have seen the comments from his ex wife, the one who filed the charges against him. She was quoted as saying Bailey was "a wonderful and supportive father." I have seen a lot of negativity aimed at Bailey, probably because he is the front runner in this race. I would like to see some of the other candidates negatives highlighted, like the fact that Fitz Steele has no high school diploma, or the fact that Fitz Steele fathered a son who he is ashamed to claim. To me that is much more alarming than the fact that Bailey was involved in a divorce.

Bailey is so far ahead of the other guys in this race, so you could have expected something like this to happen in the final week of the campaign. Just more attacks on the Bailey familiy by corrupt, jealous individuals (i.e. Jailbird Johnny Ray Turner) and proof that it doesn't get any lower than EKY politics. Shameful. Thankfully, Benny will win big and be a great representative for this district.

230--I haven't read any of this in a "regular" newspaper. Or at least to the degree I am here. You could violate an EPO by pulling into the driveway. I don't think we are going to know about these broken bone allegations, from a factual standpoint. And while I do think they are quite relevant--QUITE--I am still hesitant to buy into them just on the basis of posts on a blog site. These sites are quite worthwhile, but at the same time, anyone can say anything. I'd like to see something like a police report or something to verify some of this, because if there's something like that, he's toast. I do also understand who pop is, and how easy it would have been to bury that. Plus the Stumbo connection to the judge, if true, which I wasn't aware of. That guy pops up everywhere.

IF I were the ex-wife of Benny Ray Bailey II and had been through everything she went through with his family - watching the voilent charges get dismissed, knowing there was no one to help her, I would probably support him publicly too. DISMISSED?? His charges DISAPPEARD because his daddy made them. Are those of you who are speaking so loudly about him now going to help support her against him when all of this is over?? His ex wife did tell alot of people what happened. At least one of the people who want to expose him now for political reasons represented him AGAINST her when all that happened. No one cared what happened to her until politics got involved.

Legally he didn't beat his wife --- no conviction, recanted testimony of the complaintant.

There you are wrong 9:31. He did indeed beat her. If he had not the charges would have been "dismissed with prejudice", which means the charges were dropped because of lack of evidence. There is a huge difference. And these cases are not supposed to be expunged unless they are "dismissed with prejudice", but his got expunged anyway. That is against the law too. He is not supposed to be allowed to own a gun but I hear that he does and has a license to conceal and carry a deadly weapon, also agianst the law. And those of us who have known him and his family for a very long time know that this is not the only expungement he has had. You may be able to take the records out of the courthous and the police files but people remember these things.

I read the letter in the link cyberhillbilly. It is truly a shame that this has to be dragged out in public, but the only person to blame is Benny Ray Bailey Jr. He had to know this would come out if he ran for PUBLIC office. If he cared at all about his ex-wife and little girl he would not have run for PUBLIC office. A persons PUBLIC record is always fair game in elections and you nor anyone else should wine and cry when the PUBLIC record is examined. If you do not want your record made PUBLIC, for all to see, you should remain a PRIVATE citizen.

It is good to read so many who really want truth out there. You know, if the blogs continue to hash it out like this, we will not need the bought and paid for newspapers.
