UPDATED: Col. Horne or General Stumbo, For Real This Time?
I have received a dozen emails and 4 phone calls from people wanting to know who the so called Democrats are that McConnell supporters are "SUPPOSEDLY" contacting. I guess the word "fact" stirs up the bees. Don't ask me, because there is absolutely no chance of me divulging that information.
We drafted a post with the same round about title a few months ago and now we may actually see this match up. It would provide for an interesting Democratic primary, but I do NOT believe a Horne vs. Stumbo primary will happen. I could and wrong, like I stated before, trying to nail down Stumbo is like trying to nail down a moving picture frame blindfolded, it is all but impossible.
I have to come to this conclusion because Stumbo lowered his flap for a moment and exposed his thoughts. Usually if a potential candidate talks about "political options" it almost always results in the candidate NOT running for the office in question. However his polling, or public polling is not bad and when the results are not bad, improvement is easier to accomplish. Outgoing Attorney General Greg Stumbo's (D) approval rating is comparable to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R).
- Stumbo Approval Rating = 47% (Bluegrass Poll September 2007)
- McConnell Approval Rating = 44% (SurveyUSA November 2007)
Stumbo's low disapproval rating, 26% (Bluegrass Poll September 2007), shows that his perceived negatives could be a non-issue. Why is Stumbo backing away, or appearing to be backing away, from a potential U.S Senate run? Could be money, could be a close to vest unknown, could be Stumbo knows something we don,t, like a potential run from Bruce Lunsford. I have been reading between the lines with some people supposedly close to Lunsford and I am not picking up on that vibe that always exists when someone of Lunsford's fiscal caliber is preparing or even talking about a potential run. If Stumbo bows out, we will likely never know why.
Luallen was being, or supposedly being, courted by the DSCC to run a few short weeks back. I heard some polling and other personal issues snuffed out the fire before adding the wood. Luallen knows what she is doing, you can take that to the bank. I say Stumbo knew she was bowing out and he pulled a bully in the press to prop up the rep, simple.
Col. Andrew Horne (D) is thinking, as he should be. I talked with him briefly and he seems confident. Running for an office of this caliber is absolutely one of the biggest decisions of one's life, so you can not blame anyone for wanting to line up the pieces. I think Horne will run, the momentum is there to ride a wave of excitement into the Democratic primary. His national reputation will be key in gaining the support of the people needed to pull this off. Yea I am sure the big D.C boyz will SAY they will pour the cash into the Democratic nominee's bank account, but I do not trust anything until I see the cash.
I know (SOURCE INFO THAT I WILL NOT DIVULGE) McConnell's people or McConnell supporters have been contacting some Democrats over the past month. Why? McConnell is trying to create a buffer, a DMZ if you will. One of the most important tasks of a Horne campaign, if he is the nominee, will be an effort to ensure that vulnerable elected officials in our party supports your candidacy. If you turn your back on McConnell he will burn you, he has done it time and time again.
I suspect we have some people whispering in the ears of wealthy candidates and potential candidates like Greg Fischer (D) and a Charlie Owen (D), maybe even a Bruce Lunsford (D), probably telling them they have chance. Most if not all of these whisperers are looking for a payday NOT a candidate that can take on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R).

If you know for a "fact" he has been contacting Democrats then let's hear some names

Someone is calling your Shack-a-hack bluff! One Democratic blogger was blasting you at an event a while back. Payne is cutting your throat.

Plenty of dems will support McConnell. Why wouldn't they when the dems are doing absolutely nothing.
