This is bad new for ALL Republicans in the general election. Beverage's cooperation could stoke up smoking embers that once was an out of control fire that is the merit hiring scandal. Fletcher's administration has been decimated politically and legally and it looks like merit scandal part 2 could be ready to begin.
PROVIDES PROSECUTOR WITH INFORMATION ABOUT TRANSPORTATION CONTRACTS
FRANKFORT — Former state highway engineer Sam Beverage, the final defendant in the lengthy state hiring investigation, pleaded guilty today to one count of misdemeanor official misconduct. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 29th.
Commonwealth's Attorney Larry Cleveland said Beverage, earlier today, provided him information about state transportation contracts that may have been steered to political supporters of Gov. Ernie Fletcher. Cleveland said he will turn the information over to the Attorney General's Office for possible investigation.
Asked if the contracts were illegal, Cleveland said they seemed "improper."
