I have all but confirmed that the staff for House Speaker Jody Richards and former Secretary of State John Y Brown III did indeed resign from the campaign. It is certainly a bad thing when your staff quits with a little over a month to go in a very heated and close Democratic gubernatorial primary, but the reason for the alleged walk outs is worse.
The reasoning behind the resignations was money, NO PAYCHECKS. Supposedly the staff was informed that there was no money for the staff payroll. The Richards and Brown campaign allegedly could not come up with the money to pay the 4 staffers.
If they could not pay a 4 person payroll, how in hell is the Richards and Brown ticket expect to survive this Democratic primary? The wheels are coming off this campaign and fast but before I declare Richards "well done" I am holding my opinion because I am sure an explanation is coming.
I will give this disclaimer: I expect more on this for sure and I will update this thread throughout the weekend. I am trying to contact the Richards and Brown campaign to solidify this report, but it does appear that the staff did indeed resign.
